Remember people's names
- Say it back straight away: "Nice to meet you, Priya." Saying it out loud is the best single trick.
- Use it once more in the conversation, naturally.
- Link it to something: Priya who just moved from Leeds. The detail is the hook your memory hangs the name on.
- Ask if you missed it. "Sorry, how do you spell that?" is completely normal and gives you a second chance.
- Write it down afterwards if it's someone you'll see again, like a new colleague or a neighbour.
And if you've forgotten someone's name, it's fine to admit it: "I'm so sorry, I've forgotten your name." Most people have done the same.
