Phone battery habits that actually make a difference
- Avoid heat. Heat ages batteries faster than anything. Don't charge under a pillow or leave the phone on a car dashboard.
- Stay roughly between 20% and 80% when it's easy to. Most phones now have a setting that stops charging at 80% or learns your routine. Turn it on.
- Screen brightness is the biggest drain. Auto brightness plus dark mode on an OLED screen helps a lot.
- Check which apps use the most in Settings, Battery. Restrict background use for the ones you rarely open.
- You don't need to close apps from the recent apps screen. Reopening them from scratch often uses more power.
Myths: you don't need to drain it to 0% "to calibrate", and charging overnight is fine on modern phones.
